LA VALETTE "MIDDLE HOUSE"
Set at the base of the valley to the East of the island, La Valette Farm enjoys all the peace and tranquillity afforded it by being off the beaten track. Away from the main hustle and bustle of the island, this area lets you really appreciate the wonderful sea views and the general quietness of a small island.
When the first families came to the island in 1565 and the Charter was granted by Elizabeth I to the first Seigneur, Helier De Carteret, the island was divided into forty equal pieces of land called tenements. The head of each of the forty families brought over from Jersey was given one of these divisions of land and he then became known as a tenant. La Valette is the only tenement never to have been sold and it has passed down through the family to the current tenant, Mrs Carré.
The property has retained many of its original features although the main farmhouse was destroyed during the Occupation and has therefore had to be rebuilt. It is a working farm, as well as offering holiday accommodation and pitches on the campsite. Rose and Avril are the resident cows, along with Ray, who is a cross-bred Hereford. Milk is available from the farmhouse and there is also the opportunity to have a go at milking the cows whilst you are on holiday. When it is possible to get them, there are also a couple of pigs being reared in the old stone pigsties. Fresh produce is also available for purchase.
The Middle House accomodates up to six people and is in fact the middle unit of the main farmhouse and comprises downstairs kitchen/diner and comfortable living room with colour TV and three upstairs bedrooms. The house has a large garden area for your enjoyment and the freedom of the property. The closest beach is just five minutes away at Grève de la Ville, which is a great place for an early morning or evening swim. Shops and restaurants are also within easy reach of La Valette.
